North Dallas Mono Revisited

Wednesday's Mono presentation at the North Dallas .NET User Group turned out to be a very exciting event. Mono support in the DFW area is growing, and it really shows. We had a good mix of Mono supporters I've met at previous events, like Kyle Davis, along with some new faces, including Todd A. Stone, mojoPortal on PostgreSQL user. It also turned out to be a great opportunity to catch up with several people I've had the privilege of working with in the DFW area, like Jon Barcellona, David Hernandez, and John Everett. I really enjoyed seeing everyone who made the trip out. Thanks to you all and to everyone else I didn't get a chance to list here.

There were lots of thoughtful questions from the audience, and, luckily, Paco was there to cover for me whenever I needed a drink of water. He had some very interesting tidbits to share that I'm sure will be showing up in his blog soon, but I'll not spoil any of his surprises.

Most of the presentation ran straight from the Mono Live LiveCD, which meant there were some great demos of MWF, ASP.NET, and the Gtk# apps. It was nice to be able to take people on a guided tour of the CD; however, the big hit from the presentation was Booish, running on Windows, Linux, and OS X. Big thanks to Peter Johanson for advice and encouragement on that.

If you'd like to see any of the additional materials from the presentation, I have a PowerPoint slideshow, along with a modified nGallery Visual Studio.NET solution that includes a Gtk# client application, hosted at http://www.mono-dallas.org/nddnug
Please let me know if you have any questions about either.

Finally, I can't thank Scott Dockendorf and the rest of the NDDNUG guys enough for this opportunity. I appreciate all of the effort you guys put into your user group. Keep up the great work!
